Course Description: Active Listening is the stealth weapon of effective communicators, master negotiators, and all great leaders.

Though counterintuitive, it is key to persuading others, building relationships, enhancing team morale, negotiating optimal outcomes, and promoting a deeper understanding of another party’s motivations, interests, and emotions.

Despite the importance of active listening across functions, most of us struggle with this skill. We may downplay or overlook its importance, perhaps we fear listening may make us look weak, or we might see it as an impediment to efficiency or accomplishing our goals. In many cases, we think we are better at it than we are. But in most cases, these assumptions are misguided.

In this interactive two-hour session, participants will learn some of the reasons why active listening can be both challenging and exhausting, and why mastering it is essential for communicating empathy and being persuasive with others. In addition, through the use of real-life examples and live demonstration, participants will discover the component micro-skills of active listening. A substantial part of the program invites participants to practice these skills and receive feedback through a guided small group skills-building exercise.

The workshop is appropriate for organizational leaders of any sort – from business to government to non-profit to education to healthcare, and for those who want to hone a critical tool in their negotiating toolbox.  It is also for anyone who wants to improve the quality of their relationships with colleagues, family, and friends.
